'Experiment in monozygosis - two' 2003
In the store cupboard under the stairs in the White Cube gallery hangs a
(i assume hitherto 'unknown') Tracey Emin artwork. Perhaps you would be
allowed a 'private view' if you asked politely. The artwork comprises a photograph
of Tracey in a dress with some money and a handwritten title across it -
'Sometimes the dress is worth more than the money'.
The irony of this piece of work hanging on the inside of the door of an
understairs cupboard was not lost on me, so i decided to make a piece of
work myself to see if i could make it into a Jay Jopling cupboard.
The work is shown here, opposite, for the first time. It is a digital print,
42cm x 30cm on a Financial Times stocklistings page.
It will be delivered as a present to Jay Jopling on 7 May 2004 and i will let
you know if I hear whether i have made it into a cupboard.... or the bin
(or been sued for taking unauthorised photographs).
ps. Tracey/Jay, if you read this, it was simply the combination of the nature
of the work and it's location that sparked the idea.
